Agenda Item: VIII.F.

Consider/Approve Amendment to Annual Board Agenda

Background Information:

At the regularly scheduled Board meeting held June 1, 2009, the Board adopted an annual agenda for the 2009 – 2010 school year as required by Board Policy #1.403. This policy provides, “At the beginning of each fiscal year, the Board shall adopt an annual planning calendar, stating month-by-month actions required by law and those required to carry out the Board's annual goals and objectives and the State Board of Education's performance standards. In addition, the annual agenda shall designate dates to monitor/review designated sections of the Board Policy Manual and to evaluate progress of programs for student achievement.” The months of November and December, 2009, have no scheduled business except for items typically on the consent agenda.

If any unforeseen business requires the Board’s attention, the Board is free to meet as set forth in Board Policy #1.400. This policy describes the mechanism for meeting in special session and provides, “The Board shall hold such special meetings as necessary to transact the business of the Board. Such meetings shall be called by the chair whenever, in the chair's judgment, the interests of the schools require it, or when requested to do so by a majority of the Board. Only business related to the call of the meeting, and details related to agenda items shall be discussed or transacted by the Board at a special meeting.”

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend the cancellation of previously approved Board Meetings for the months of November and December, 2009 due to lack of foreseen business, with the stipulation that a Special Called Meeting will be scheduled if unforeseen business requires the Board’s attention.
